We have discovered early US colonial coins just sitting around in cigar boxes. Often silver and gold coins were bought for very low amounts in the 1960s-1980s, and have really skyrocketed in price since recent gold highs. It is not uncommon for people to 5x or 10x their initial investment if they sell coins now that were purchased in the 1980s.

Please do not attempt to clean your coins! This really reduces their value. Even if you think they look dirty. Collectors love coins with an "original" patina.
