Alcedo F Almanzar - The greatest Latin American coin dealer?

The late Alcedo Almanzar was a famous coin dealer based in Texas. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s he auctioned some of the greatest rarities of Central and South America, in particular coins from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Bolivia and Mexico - and many many more. He had several "protégés" who later became great coin dealers in their own rights such as Freeman Craig.

Almanzar's catalogs are fascinating records of the late 20th century's coin collecting "scene". They are collector's items in their own right and have been studied at length to spot the first appearance of things like the 1892 and 1893 Guatemala issues after the engraver Frener's death.
