Mendham is a very historical area of New Jersey with buildings from around the 1720s, before the first New Jersey coppers appeared. At the time of founding, people would have used a mix of British, Mexican (Spanish Colonial) and French coins. Banknotes were denominated in "Milled Spanish Dollars". The Ralston General Store museum has modern copies of examples of coins that would have been used at the time, and these are viewable during most open days.
